Family History Comes to Life on the Mac and iPhones – Ancestry.com.au

Three new products make it easy to access your family history no matter where you are

SYDNEY, Australia, March 8, 2011 – Ancestry.com.au, Australia’s number one family history website¹, today announced the launch of the electronically downloadable version of Family Tree Maker® for Mac and Ancestry - its new app for iPads and iPhones.²

Family Tree Maker’s dynamic user interface and integration with Ancestry.com.au makes it simple to create family trees, record memories, organise photos, videos and audio clips, plus share ancestors’ stories. It’s even possible to explore family migration paths by viewing timelines and interactive maps that highlight events and places in ancestors' lives. With intuitive tools and flexible user options, it is ideal for family history novices and experts alike.

The Ancestry app is built specifically to deliver a compelling tablet experience, which comes to life on iPad’s large screen where users can build multi-generational family trees complete with images of original family records and photos, making the iPad a powerful tool to display and share trees with family and friends in an interactive, highly visual way – no matter where you are.

A scaled down version for the iPhone and Touch, which includes features for navigating a family tree and viewing records already attached to a tree, is also available for free on the iTunes App Store.

Introducing Ancestry.com.au onto this compelling platform takes the website one step closer to its mission of helping everyone discover, preserve and share their family history.

Ancestry.com.au Managing Director Debra Chesterton comments: “Macs and iPads have a highly interactive interface, making them ideal not only for conducting and uploading family history research, but also sharing it with others.

“The Family Tree Maker for Mac has been highly requested by our customers and we are delighted to be able to bring Ancestry.com.au to it and the iPad, providing yet another way for our members to discover, preserve and share their family history.”

Family Tree Maker for Mac is built on the functionality of Family Tree Maker 2010, the PC-version of the software, and is constructed to take full advantage of the Mac platform in terms of technology and user experience.

System requirements for Family Tree Maker for Mac include:

  • Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later
  • Intel-based Mac
  • Hard Disk Space: 500MB for installation
  • Internet access is required for all Web integration

Family Tree Maker for Mac is now available for purchase online at http://www.ancestry.com.au/shop at a recommended retail price of $99.95. The programme is also available in select retail stores, including Next Byte, Apple Store and Harvey Norman and also for electronic download from the Mac App Store for $119.99.
